La canción de la semana #97

Orquesta Anacaona, Cuba's oldest all-girl dance band, was founded in 1932 by the sisters Castro (not related to Fidel). It was named after the Indian Queen, Anacaona. Thanks to this publication in Times Online, you can enjoy some of the songs recorded back in 1937. All of them are great but my choice is Oh! Marambé Maramba.

The book by Alicia Castro with Ingrid Kummels, Anacaona: The Amazing Adventures of Cuba's First All-girl Dance Band, has been published this year. Listen to the interview with Ingrid Kummels at BBC Radio 4.
