¡Ay, pena, penita, pena! was originally performed by Lola Flores in the 1953 Mexican-Spanish film of the same name. This week, I'd like to present a spectacular version of this song by Vinila Von Bismark. As a part of her Motel Llamado Mentira tour, Vinila is playing on 6 April in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria at the inauguration of the 18th International Film Festival.
... is ¿Por qué me pega? by the legendary Colombian bullerengue singer Etelvina Maldonado (1935—2010). This song appears on album Cantaoras by Alé Kumá.
...is Consejo de Sabios by Spanish rockers Vetusta Morla who mark their 20th anniversary this year. This song appears on the band's 2017 album Mismo Sitio, Distinto Lugar.
After four years of silence, Sonido Gallo Negro is back with Cumbia Ishtar! According to Pan African Music, it
is dedicated to Ishtar, the enigmatic Babylonian deity of fertility, love, war and sex, which guards the secret of the beginning of humanity and all music. It is inspired by a famous Mexican Cumbia “Cumbia Arabe” by composer Francisco Nicolás Bobadilla. The band then merged it with a rhythm close to the “Calypso”, synthesizers and choruses. This song illustrate the group’s ability to create a very particular hypnotic mambo, and their mixed influences from Latin America, Middle East and Africa.
Cumbia Ishtar opens the band's new album, Mambo Cosmico (out next month on Glitterbeat Records).
